Mad Rock Mad Monkey 3 – a young climber's first shoe
The Mad Monkey 3 is built for children who are starting out and growing fast. Soft, comfortable and very easy to slip on, it lets a young climber think about their feet rather than their shoes.
What's new compared with earlier versions: a fully compression-moulded toe box, more durable and better shaped, which holds up even with heavy indoor use.
A shoe that grows with the foot
The wide velcro strap across the top is easy to handle, even for small hands. More importantly, the heel adjustment system gains up to half a size: the shoe stays with the child longer before another pair is needed.
Comfort first
Flat profile, moderate asymmetry, thin and supple materials – nothing aggressive here. The child's foot stays in a natural position, which matters at an age when it is still forming. Science Friction 3.0 rubber gives solid grip on plastic and rock alike, and the R2 rand protects the wear zones.
Two colourways
Grape (purple/pink) and Blue (denim blue). Same shoe, same performance – it comes down to taste.
How to choose the size
For a child, aim for comfort rather than performance: take their street shoe size, or half a size up if the foot is growing fast. Downsizing brings nothing at this age and risks putting the child off climbing altogether.
